With a distance of some 1,850 kilometres, the Canning Stock Route is the longest historic stock route in the world!

This iconic route runs from Halls Creek in the Kimberley region of Western Australia to Wiluna in the mid-west region of Western Australia.

The stock route was established as a way of breaking a monopoly that west Kimberley cattlemen had on the beef trade at the beginning of the 20th century.

DATE: Planning for July 2024 and 2025. Taking Expressions of Interest.

The route is named after Alfred Canning, the Western Australian government surveyor commissioned to help bring the epic route to life.

Over 50 wells make up the infamous track, scattered every 20 kilometres or so, originally built to hydrate travelling lifestock at regular intervals.

The plan is to meet and depart in Alice Springs, before hitting the Canning Stock Route, considered one of the most challenging 4x4 routes in Australia.
